Overview
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented senior Desktop Technician to join our team supporting the Bureau of Indian Affairs. In this role, you will be the frontline technical expert responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing desktop environments across the organization. You will ensure seamless user experiences, quick resolution of technical issues, and support for a diverse hardware and software infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive technical support for desktop computers, laptops, mobile devices, and peripherals to ensure optimal performance and user satisfaction.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software issues related to operating systems such as Windows, macOS, and Linux, including software installation, updates, and configuration.
  • Manage computer hardware components including upgrades, repairs, and replacements to maintain a reliable IT environment.
  • Support network connectivity issues by configuring and troubleshooting LAN (Local Area Network), VPN (Virtual Private Network), firewall settings, DNS (Domain Name System), TCP/IP protocols, and network administration tools like Meraki and Cisco switches.
  • Assist in maintaining IT infrastructure by supporting server environments, including Windows Server systems and Linux servers.
  • Collaborate with end-users via help desk platforms to deliver exceptional customer service while documenting issues accurately for analysis and resolution.
  • Conduct regular system audits, perform analysis of recurring issues, and recommend improvements to enhance overall IT support efficiency.

Skills

  • Strong technical support skills with the ability to troubleshoot hardware failures and software malfunctions efficiently.
  • Extensive experience with desktop management across multiple operating systems including Windows, macOS, and Linux.
  • Proficiency in computer networking concepts such as LAN/WAN setup, TCP/IP protocols, DNS management, VPN configuration, firewall settings, and network security best practices.
  • The ability to support specialized software such as GIS and AutoCAD and software unique to the Bureau of Indian Affairs
  • Knowledge of computer hardware components including motherboards, storage devices, RAM upgrades and peripheral devices such as printers and scanners.
  • Ability to configure and support mobile devices along with understanding of operating systems on smartphones and tablets.
  • Excellent communication skills combined with a customer-focused approach to resolve issues promptly while maintaining professional rapport with users.

Education and Experience

  • An Associates Degree is preferred, but any combination of experience and education will be evaluated
  • Experience managing at least 5 or more other employees is required
