Anadarko Industries, LLC is looking to fill a Test Safety Engineer position at Johnson Space Center (JSC) -Houston, TX.  This position will support testing at different facilities located around the JSC Campus and will incorporate a wide range of testing including vibration, pyrotechnic, electromagnetic, thermal and thermal vacuum testing, with primary focus being monitoring of human testing in altitude chambers and underwater training.  The Test Safety Engineer will demonstrate a high standard of safety, ensuring compliance with safety laws, policies, and procedures critical to protecting life and property.

The Essential Duty and Responsibility for this position is to provide hazardous testing support as part of the Center Safety and Fire Operations (CSFO) II contract at JSC through the performance of hazard recognition, evaluation, and control activities and tasks including:

  • Successfully complete internal Test Safety Engineer certification training.
  • Represent the JSC Safety & Test Operations in Test Readiness Reviews for hardware and human testing.
  • Prepare and present safety recommendations to the JSC Safety & Test Operations Division.
  • Review test documentation and monitor select test operations in support of JSC programs.
  • Mishap and close call investigations and support.
  • Development and review of facility and job hazard analysis.
  • Development of JSC safety and health communications and educational materials.
  • Assure JSC test facilities, test beds and operations meet internal and external applicable standards and codes.
  • Support of both JSC and company’s Voluntary Protection Program (VVP) activities and initiatives.
  • Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Responsibilities occasionally require working evenings and weekends, sometimes with little advance notice, and carrying an emergency contact telephone on a rotational schedule with other members of the Test Safety Engineering group.

Education, Skills and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety engineering, technology or industrial hygiene.
  • Bachelor’s degree in any engineering field and one (1) year of professional safety engineering experience.
  • Associate degree in safety or fire protection and ten (10) years of safety engineering related experience.
  • Proficient in OSHA & NFPA standards and publications, risk management and system safety techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, contractor’s representatives and regulatory agency representatives.
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on the telephone.
